In math, we will talk about finding area on a coordinate grid. We will also have a short quiz over coordinate plane on Wednesday. Homework this week will be Castle Learning and IXL Section X. Please make sure your child is staying on top of missing assignments.
In science, we will review for our LS1 and LS2 quiz on Wednesday. We will continue to talk about earthquakes and P v.s S waves later on in the week.

This week we will finish percents and how they are connected to the real world. We will learn more about taxes and discounts and how they are applied. Students will complete a project Monday and Tuesday and have a short quiz on Wednesday.
Homework this week is lowden25 (assigned last Monday and due Thursday), lowden26 (Started last Friday in class), and Castle Learning - Percents. Our third six week assessment is Friday. Students should use lowden25 as a review and study guide. In science this week, we will review for our third six week assessment on Tuesday. Be sure to study the kahoots posted throughout my website. We will start a new unit on Wednesday, turning our focus to geology. This week we will be finishing Unit Rate and moving into percents. We introduced percents earlier this year so students should have a strong background knowledge on what we are doing. We will be applying percents to real world situations where students need to find that percent of a given number.
Homework this week is Castle Learning and SchoolNet - lowden24. which students started last week. Lowden25 - January Review will also be given and is due Thursday, February 9th. Our next six week assessment will be Friday, February 10th. Lowden25 will be a review for this. In science, we will begin learning about space exploration and go into detail on the Hubble telescope and Kepler. Our next six week assessment will be Tuesday, February 7th. Kahoots will be posted to my website later this week to help review for the test. This week we will be exploring unit rate and proportions. Students will complete several activities connecting unit rate to the real world. We will be focusing on finding what "one" is equivalent to and how to turn that into multiple items.
Homework this week is a new Castle Learning assignment - Unit Rate and Proportions, and an IXL assignment - R.12. All assignments must be completed by Friday. Our Unit Rate and Proportions test will be this Friday. Students will be allowed to use a calculator on this assessment. In science, our LS1 and LS2 test will be this Tuesday. Please find attached the kahoot link to help study for the assessment. It will be open note. We will continue our unit this week by learning about space exploration. This week in math we will be connecting fractions to our algebra unit. Students will need to be able to add and subtract fractions in order to isolate the variables. We will be spending Wednesday and Thursday reviewing these lessons and students will complete a follow up activity on Friday. Due to the snow days, we will not be testing students on this unit.
Homework this week will be SchoolNet - December Review (decreview) and Castle Learning - Q1 and Q2 Review. These assignments have been worked on in class This week in science we will continue insturcution on why the Earth has seasons as well as learning more about the inner and outer planets. Our test for LS1 and LS2 will be on January 25th. Students will be allowed to use their notes. I hope you all had a great winter break! Thank you all so much for the wonderful gifts and cards you made for me. It means a lot!
In math, we will spending these three days reviewing skills from the first and second quarter. An assigment is posted on Google Classroom that students will complete during class. Homework this week is SchoolNet - December Review. The passcode is "decreview" and is due Thursday, January 12th. In science, we will be starting a new unit on astronomy. Students will learn about the basics of the solar system this week as well as what determines the size of a crater. The quarter ends January 23rd. Any student that needs a retest needs to schedule a time with me next week. All Kahoots for Science Six-Week Assessment on Tuesday, December 13th.

Tuesday will be our six week assessment with the majority of the test being sound and light as well as questions involving the energy, diving into science, and matter units. Wednesday we will make our own electric circuits and talk about both renewable and non-renewable energy on Thursday. We will wrap up the week by drawing our own Rube Goldberg machine in groups. In math, we will continue to review dividing, multilying, adding, and subtracting decimals on Monday followed by a Decimals quiz on Tuesday. Wednesday through Friday will consist of converting decimals, percents, and fractions. For extra practice at home, use the IXL program. Each student has an account. Login is first letter of first name and last name @baileyms and password is lowden. Example: Username: tlowden@baileyms Password: lowden Next week, we will be doing a project using M&M's in math. If you are able to send in any of the larger bags of multi-colored M&M's (not the Christmas colored bags) it would be a huge help. This week in math will contain dividing decimals using algebra as well as solving word problems. Our six week assessment will be this Friday over everything we have learned in November and October. The November schoolnet review mirrors the six week assessment, so the grade you score on the schoolnet is a good reflection of what you will score on the six week. The code for the schoolnet is novreview.
I highly recommend if you scored a 69 or below on the algebra or fractions unit test in math or the LS3 test in science to come into working lunch for a re-test. You have the opportunity to make up to an 80%, which will drastically improve your grades. In science this week, we will learn about light intesity and the factors associated with the type of energy. We will then talk about the concepts of wave behavior and the electromagnetic spectrum followed by learning about the eye. We will wrap up the week by reviewing for our six week assessment that will be on Wednesday, December 13th. |
