Homework this week will be Castle Learning - EOG Review Week One, IXL - L.8 (get score to 90) and to complete any SchoolNets that we work on this week. We will also have a short quiz on Friday assessing mastery of dividing fractions and decimal operations. In science, we will go into photosynthesis and cellular respiration as well as talk about the water, nitrogen, and carbon cycle. An open-note test on the material will be this Friday. https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/d9faeb6f-5473-451c-b8c7-22fc7671be2c
Rocks, minerals, soils kahoot Please be sure to check Power School for missing assignments. Zeros were placed in the gradebook this morning and it dropped some student's grades. You have until the end of the quarter (March 31st) to complete any missing assignments. Math re-tests for the area test will be held this week during working lunch. Our surface area and volume test will be this Wednesday. Castle Learning for surface area will be due tomorrow! We will introduce the topic of soil this week in science and have our minerals, rocks, and soil test Tuesday, March 27.
This week we will continue to work with three-dimensional figures. We will review surface area today and how "nets" are formed by taking a three-dimensional figure to a two-dimensional figure. Tuesday we will be completing several activities related to Pi Day and how to calculate the area and perimeter of a circle. The end of the week we will be introducing volume to students and how it is connected to three-dimensional figures.
A castle learning surface area will be due Tuesday, March 21st. Our next assessment will be Wednesday, March 22nd, and will be on Surface Area and Volume. In science, we will talk all about rocks and minerals this week. We will learn how to identify minerals by looking at their characteristics and properties such as color, luster, hardness, cleavage, fracture, and streak. At the end of the week, we will introduce the rock cycle and have students complete an around the room activity. Next week, we will talk about soil. In math, we will have an end of unit assessment on our area unit Wednesday. Students are responsible for calculating the area of any figure that can be broken into triangles and rectangles. The rest of the week we will be introducing surface area. Students will need to be to calculate the surface area of three-dimension figures that are made up of rectangles and triangles, including rectangular and triangular prisms, cubes, and pyramids. Students will also need to be able to identify and label "nets" that are formed when a three-dimensional shapes is transformed into a flat surface. No homework this week!
In science, we will continue to discuss the wonders of volcanoes and earthquakes. Students will take their LS3-LS4 test on Tuesday. To study for the test, be sure to play the kahoot and review the vocabulary sheet. |
